Looking Ahead to Wipeout! and Wanna Bet?
Tuesday May 27, 2008
Looks like the new trend in game shows is punctuation in the titles. ABC has released more details on two of their new summer game shows, which are vastly different in nature.First we have Wipeout!, which has been labeled "the world's biggest obstacle course." Each week 24 contestants will attempt the course, with added challenges thrown in including the Human Cannonball and a contraption called the "Dreadmill," which is basically a treadmill at warp speed with hurdles thrown in for good measure. The winner takes home $50,000 in prize money. Wipeout! hits the airwaves on June 24th at 8pm.
A few weeks later, Wanna Bet? premieres. This one is hosted by British sensations Ant and Dec, and features a group of celebrities both judging and wagering on whether or not "regular people" can accomplish stunts or tricks in front of a live studio audience. Any prize money won by the celebs is donated to charity. Some of the famous faces we'll see on the show include footballer Jerry Rice, comedian Bill Engvall, and host Tom Bergeron and season two winner Drew Lachey from Dancing With the Stars. Wanna Bet? starts July 21st at 9pm Eastern.

Are Wipeout and I Survived A Japanese Game Show the same exact thing, or is it just me? I’m guessing that both shows are knockoffs of that Spike TV show, Extreme something or other, which is a Japanese show, falsely dubbed into English.
Hey Christina.
‘Wipeout’ is basically an athletic competition on crack, while ‘I Survived a Japanese Game Show’ actually takes the contestants to Japan to compete there on those outrageous game shows. Then we have ‘Hole in the Wall’ on FOX, which will be that human Tetris game. So yeah, it’s a little confusing.
Love that Spike show though. *lol*
