More Details on Celebrity Family Feud

Sunday April 20, 2008
NBC has announced some new details about the upcoming Celebrity Family Feud, and so far it sounds like a great series. Regular host John O'Hurley will not be heading up the celebrity edition - instead, Today weatherman and co-host Al Roker will be at the helm. Roker is a self-described fan of game shows, and has appeared on both Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! and hosted a short-lived game show called Remember This? for MSNBC. He also took over hosting duties for Meredith Vieira for a week last year on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? He's certainly qualified for this gig!

Celebrity Family Feud will premiere on July 1st at 8pm Eastern. While the list of celebrities taking part is not yet available, we've been told that some episodes will feature stars and their real-life families, while others will pit teams of television families and/or co-stars against one another.

NBC's Executive Vice President of Alternative Programming, Development and Specials, Craig Plestis, had this to say about the show: "This is a no-holds-barred, laugh-out-loud series that allows celebrities to be themselves among their family members or among longtime co-stars who have become like family." From the sounds of it, there won't be any big format changes to the game itself, although fans could possibly expect an updated set with more neon lights and dramatic flair.

A weatherman to host Family Fued? What is NBC thinking? Oh yeah he already works for them so I guess we have that one figured out. Sheeesh. He guest hosted for a stint on Millionaire and was terrible!!! He’s not funny (except to look at lol) and isn’t quick witted, charming, not that outgoing or that personable with the others and is pretty much snore city. John O’Hurley is excellent on the day time version of the Feud and has upped the ratings the last two seasons that he had hosted it. Why couldn’t they bring him on for the prime time version as well? He has the class, the charm, the warmth, looks and humor to do the job obviously. Networks are becomming more brainless in their choices by the second.

BACK IN 1981 NBC TOOK A CHANCE ON A WEATHER MAN WHO HAD NEVER HOSTED A GAME SHOW BEFORE! HIS NAME WAS PAT SAJAK!

I agree with you Walt!

I also thought Roker was quite good on “Millionaire.” The main reason O’Hurley isn’t hosting Celebrity Family Feud is because he was already hosting Secret Talents of the Stars and the schedules conflicted - of course that show has been canceled now, but he had a full plate.

O’Hurley is a great host, but Roker is going to be fun to watch as well, I think.

John O’Hurley hosting the Secret Talents of The Stars had nothing to do with him not doing the the Celebrity Feud primetime edition. The Talent show was only slated for a ten week run and would have ended in May and the Celeb. Feud doesn’t even start til July.
I agree with the first poster. NBC is using Roker because he is one of their own. Just because in the history of all the game show hosts that ONE weatherman made a decent host doesn’t mean Al will. I don’t care for him at all. I think he will do the show more harm than good. He just doesn’t have the personality, humor, spark or energy for such a fast past show with so many contestants. I don’t see him ad libing nearly as well as John does either. And frankly, what woman wants to have him hug them or kiss their hand?
It’s one thing to sit in a chair (like he did on Millionaire) the entire time and interact with only one contestant who has all the time in the world to answer the question, rather than two teams of several players to interact with and having to move quickly back and forth on the stage the entire time and having time constraints for each question and answer.
I think O’Hurley should have been the choice hands down.

I agree that Al Roker is not good, but now that the list of celebrities HAS been released I have more confidence in the show and will definitely be tuning it. I would have watched anyways because come on guys, it’s Family Feud.
