The 39th annual Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony was held on Saturday, June 23, 2012. Taking place at the Beverly Hills Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the awards show recognizes talent both on air and behind the scenes by giving out trophies to the best of the best in a long list of categories.
While the Daytime Emmys have always been heavily geared to soap operas and talk shows, game shows are also represented with two awards: Outstanding Game/Audience Participation Show, and Outstanding Game Show Host.
This year, the nominees for Outstanding Game Show Host included:
- Ben Bailey for Cash Cab, Discovery Channel
- Todd Newton for Family Game Night, The Hub
- Wayne Brady for Let's Make a Deal, CBS
- Meredith Vieira for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, syndicated
While this year marks the second nomination for Todd Newton, he was awarded the honor of Outstanding Game Show Host for Family Game Night on The Hub, his first win. Family Game Night is based on well-known Hasbro board games, incorporating giant, colorful props and exciting formats. Kids and parents play the game together to win prizes that the whole family can enjoy, and in true family game spirit, each team of competitors gets to keep all of the prizes they've accumulated throughout the course of the game, whether they end up winning or not.
The show has really taken off and become popular with kids and adults alike, and it's great to see such a fun host get this recognition. As of June 2012, Family Game Night has been renewed for a third season which will begin airing later in the year. With this recognition at the Daytime Emmys, we're sure that the future is looking even brighter for the show. Our congratulations go out to Todd Newton for a well-deserved win!
