The $1,000,000 Pyramid is the newest revival of the classic Pyramid game show franchise.
CBS ordered a couple of pilot episodes to be taped in the summer of 2009, considering the show as a possible replacement for the canceled soap opera Guiding Light. The hosts for these pilots were U.K. based presenter Tim Vincent, and actor Dean Cain.
Unfortunately, CBS decided to pass on Pyramid, at least for now, in favor of Let's Make a Deal. Rumors of another soap opera on the edge of cancellation, as well as other networks being interested in the game, are keeping hopes alive that it will still return in the future.
In Pyramid, celebrities are paired up with contestants. The category board, shaped like a pyramid, features the six current categories that are in play. Teams take turns choosing a category, and then one team member gives clues for the other to guess the designated words or phrases within the category.
The bonus round, which is played by the contestant with the highest score after the first round, works in much the same way. The difference here is that categories are played in order, and the difficulty increases as the contestant moves up the pyramid.
The format, host, and scheduling are as yet unknown for The $1,000,000 Pyramid, as they could change from what was seen in the pilot episodes. We do know, however, that there will be tournaments included, in which the million dollars in the show's title will be awarded.
