'Minute to Win It' On the Rebound Game

By

Definition:

Grab a partner and start throwing ping pong balls at him or her. That's pretty much the jist of this game from Minute to Win It, which would be just as appropriate for office party hilarity as it would be for a kids' birthday party.

The Goal

One person wears a clipboard tied around his or her waist, so the board itself covers the, er, groin area. This person stands behind a series of trach cans, while his or her partner throws ping pong balls in an attempt to bounce a ball off the clipboard and get it to land into a basket. Get three balls into three baskets in this manner and you can consider yourself a Minute to Win It champion.

Equipment Needed

One thing to keep in mind with On the Rebound is that the clipboard will need to be attached to one person's waist. If you're a serious gamer and want something a little more permanent to have on hand for this game, you can haul out the super duper glue and an old belt and fashion something that will last. For our purposes here, we're looking at a temporary clipboard loincloth sort of thing, and the clipboard will simply be clipped to the pants of the person wearing it.

Here's what you'll need to have on hand to set up and play this game.

  • One standard clipboard, the kind with a large metal clip at the top
  • Basket of ping pong balls, any color
  • Three small trash cans or buckets
  • Masking tape or duct tape
  • A one minute timer or stop watch

Set Up On the Rebound

Setup for this game is pretty easy. First, line up the trash cans or buckets in a row, leaving about a foot between each one. Then, decide how far away you want the balls to be thrown from. Further away will be more difficult, of course. Measure this distance from the trach cans and mark a foul line with masking tape or duct tape on the floor, so the ball thrower will know where to stand. Place the basket of ping pong balls at the foul line.

How to Play

Decide which one of you will be the clipboard-wearer and which one will be the ping pong ball thrower. The clipboard person must hook the clipboard to the front of his or her pants so that it hangs down like a loincloth. (Don't worry guys, this isn't going to hurt. Ping pong balls are really light.) Then, take your place behind the first trash can in the row.

The ball thrower should start directly across from the clipboard-wearer, standing behind the foul line. When the one-minute timer begins, the person throwing the balls can grab the bucket and begin the assault. Balls must be thrown one at a time, and must bounce off the clipboard and directly into the trash can that the clipboard-wearer is standing behind. Get one ball into all three of the trash cans to win.

The Rules

A game this silly can't come without rules, can it? Here they are:

  • The person wearing the clipboard may use his or her hips or body stance to direct the balls into the trash cans, but he or she cannot touch the balls with any body part including the hands.
  • A ball must bounce directly from the clipboard into a trash can. If it hits the person's body or clothing and goes into the trash can, it doesn't count.
  • You must get the ball into the trash can that you're aiming for.
  • You can only throw one ping pong ball at a time.

Tips and Tricks

Let's face it - you're going to be laughing up a storm during this game and it'll be hard to concentrate. Do your best. This game will work out better if both people can work together to direct the balls where they need to go.
