More sad news for game show fans today. Comedian and well-loved game show host Bill Rafferty has passed away at the age of 68. His family posted on the following on his Facebook page earlier today: "I'm sorry to say our father Bill Rafferty passed away this morning. He was surrounded by his family. All of you gave him great joy during his final months. He loved talking to all of you. (even the Liberals ;) ) Love the Raffertys."

Rafferty hosted Card Sharks, Blockbusters, and the short-lived game show Every Second Counts. He was a frequent celebrity panelist on shows such as Super Password and the Match Game/ Hollywood Squares Hour. Most recently he was seen as the host of Retirement Living TV's show Retired and Wired.

Our condolences go out to the Rafferty family and all of his friends and fans. He was always a favorite amongst game show viewers and he will be missed.

This year has been particularly sad, but then the it is sad that the genre of game shows as we know and love it is dying or already dead. That said, Mr. Rafferty leaves a void. He had a hilarious way of making the show interesting, yet not about himself in the way hosts of today (Drew Carey, Steve Harvey) have not. I am extremely sad, especially since he was not very old. If his family reads this, I hope they will take comfort in the fact their father brought a lot of happy memories to a variety of people (including myself). I even tuned in to RLN just to see him even though I am at least 25 years away from retirement, just because he was such an inviting host. His edition of both shows he hosted were way too short.

Bill was certainly one if the underrated great game show hosts. Funny, pleasant & was into the games. I loved it when he would coin the land of parting gifts for contestants who didn’t win a penny or dual implication. His versions of Card Sharks & BLockbusters deserved longer runs. He was also great on Real People as well. RIP Bill & thanks for the memories.

We just heard about Bills passing on the Brian Copland radio show on KGO Radio in San Francisco. He was a delightful guest on Brian’s show. He loved life and you could hear it ion his voice. We will miss listening to him. To Bill’s family, take care and be brave and know we are thinking of you.
