Let's Make a Deal Hits Episode 100

By February 25, 2010

Follow me on:

CBS is celebrating all kinds of anniversaries lately! As Drew Carey celebrates his 500th episode on The Price is Right, newcomer Let's Make a Deal will hit its 100th episode on Wednesday, March 3rd. Sadly we don't have a CBS-provided image of host Wayne Brady with a giant "100" cake to go along with this post.

Just like Carey experienced with Price, Let's Make a Deal started off on shaky ground and has consistenly built up an audience. Admittedly the game took a few weeks to find its groove, but now it's rolling along like a well-oiled machine. Announcer Jonathan Mangum has a great chemistry with Brady, and new model Tiffany Coyne fits right in.

Since we asked you earlier in the week how you feel about Drew Carey and The Price is Right, let's do the same with Let's Make a Deal. Have you been watching the show, and do you enjoy it more now than you did when it first kicked off? With the steady increase in viewers, that seems to be the case for many people. I've also heard lots of complaints about the show as well, so here's your chance to air them. Good or bad, how do you feel about LMAD?

I really like the show, I actually didn’t start watching until a few weeks ago. If I had to make a complaint I’d say that I’d like to see them give away more and especially more cash because while trips, living room sets, etc are nice cash is always the best thing to win. For fun I kept track of how much money and prizes they gave away in a few episodes and i was surprised by how little they give away:31k,21k,25k on three episodes I randomly tuned into. (the first two are more exact, the last one I’m not as sure about). Compare that to half hour episodes of wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy which often give away much more than that. Despite the relatively small amount of actual prizes being given away it’s a really fun show to watch and I really wish I could go on it.

A note about those three episodes I kept track of, on none of them was the “Big deal of the day won” on episodes that it is won that usually bumps the amount of money given away for the day past 40k but I didn’t count exactly, maybe I’ll try counting for more episodes.

I was never a huge LMAD fan back in Monty’s day, but I think they’ve done a good job with the remake. Wayne’s improv skills really serve him well here. Jonathon is great in the Jay Stewart role. Haven’t gotten used to Tiffany, yet. (What happened to Allison, anyway?)
The only real gripe I would have is only having one player vie for the Big Deal. But it doesn’t take away from my enjoyment of the show.

I totally agree…where is the real model ALLISON?? Tiffany..Coin…??? what is she..a stiff board..with NO personality..and even her speaking is strained..its like..zombies are Us……Im wondering..does her father own the station..cause..she couldnt have just slept her way to the top….Im sure that wasnt it..I was thinking..if she had..looks..but..shes just so..dang..plain..being a former model in Ny.I know what beauty is..she doesnt even have inside beauty..shes so afraid..of just..letting loose…what in Gods name were they thinking..?? boring..boring..boring…model..totally..and hello.. her hair?? can you bring her hair into the 20th century please.. I mean. Dorothy hammel has a more updated hair do then her old hair do..which..”Stiff-Any” is sporting now..

“Back in the day” was when I used to watch LMAD when I was home sick from school. That and ‘Win Lose or Draw’ were the highlights of sick days (well, those and cream of mushroom soup with cheese and crackers).

Monty Hall was (and is) a class act, and I think Wayne Brady is as well. He just seems to fit the show and its spirit.

I’m not sure why Alison left – she was a riot.

Jason, your stats that you shared on Twitter are great – only one day was over 30K, yet the show is still enjoyable to watch. Proof that you don’t need a million dollar prize to get people to tune in – at least not in daytime.

(5) Wayne says:

I’m surprised they give that much away, I really thought it was closer to $15K without the big deal being won.

While never a huge fan of the show, it was always watchable, especially when home from school. It would be a lot easier to watch if it was just a half hour though, this version really feels like it is stretched.

I also don’t like only one person going for the big deal, but let’s face it, it’s for the budget–if two were going for it, that doubles the chances of it being won, and therefore raises cost of production.

Wayne, I almost forgot I counted it one day and they only gave away 17k. I was really surprised, it seemed like a really unlucky day for everyone Zonks left and right. I kind of have fun trying to keep track of how much money is given away so I’ll keep doing it for a while longer so we can get an even better idea… on the contrary I noticed that tonight Wheel gave away over 60k in half an hour. Again, I really like the show except it would seem that they could stand to be more generous now and then.

Its an ok show.I personally do not care for it..but my kids love it! My teens think its great hwo the peopel dress up-unlike anyhtign theyve ever seen before!!!I think Wayne does alright as a host!

(8) Wayne says:

Can’t really compare $ given away on LMAD to WOF or Jeopardy…WOF/Jeopardy have way bigger audiences and better demographics and command higher ad revenues than LAMD running on broadcast daytime.

Need to remember, CBS put LMAD on due to budget cuts, and if they are giving away $30K/day, I’ll bet you find TPIR isn’t that much higher on average. Yeah, the prizes have more glitz, but look how many aren’t won during the show. LMAD can also only give away what is given to them, and they don’t have the reputation of TPIR, WOF & Jeopardy yet.

Keep counting though, I’d love to see a longer test of $ given to get a more accurate picture.

What the hell happened to lets make a deal ?, I’ve been
looking for it for a week now , they put that stupid female
cook show in its time slot , if people don’t know how to cook by now they should give up eating. What a bunch of ding bats.
having to put up with all the ads is bad enough, but to move
or remove the show is a crime.

(29) Elizabeth says:

I watch the show and like Wayne Brady–Jonathan is goofy but fun. I agree that they could give away more generous prizes; what I especially wonder about is the number of manual-transmission cars they give away. Just seems that fewer and fewer people learn to drive manual these days, so how practical is that?

March 7, 2011 at 1:32 am
(30) JoJo says:

I watch Lets Make A Deal and The Price Is Right daily. I really enjoy Wayne Brady and Jonathan. Tiffany Coyne is boring and way too serious. She does’nt seem to have a sense of humor. I can’t believe Tifanny is filling in on The Price Is Right. Tiffany is far from drop dead gorgeous. The regular models on the Price Is Right are beautiful !! I hope Tiffany does’nt stay.

I love LMAD. Just love it! I think i like it more then TPIR! But i do love both shows. LMAD is so entertaining! Good job!

(32) CC says:

I didn’t watch the original LMAD but I’m hooked on Brady & Mangum! Their chemistry & impressive improv skills are a perfect match for the show! I’m very neutral on Tiffany, she’s not bad but she’s not as free-spirited as the guys. I wouldn’t be upset if she left but does anyone know why she’s on The Price is Right, too? Is she getting ready to make a permanant switch or is this temperary? It’s not a life or death thing but I’m just curious.

(36) Rebecca Lewis says:

I love the show but I don’t feel the people he picks is equally balanced. The ratio between the white and blacks or minority is 3-1. He picks too many pale faces. He is good at improv but sometimes it is overdone. I wonder if they switch the objects behind the curtains when the “Deal of the Day’ door is picked. It can be easily done. I’m sure those doors are on large rollers behind the curtain.

Why do they only give MANUAL cars, I wonder how many of the recipients get into car accidents?.
