GSN is planning their usual marathons, with Ray Combs' Family Feud running all day on the 24th, the Richard Dawson version on the 25th, a 6-episode run of Deal or No Deal on the 29th, Richard Karn's Feud on the 30th, 1 vs. 100 on the 31st, and finally John O'Hurley's Feud on January 1st. I'll post a complete schedule with air times when it gets a little closer to the dates.
Sometimes we get a new game premiering over the holidays with a limited run, like we saw a couple of years back with Duel. These are usually fun to watch, and I wish the big networks would do more of this type of programming. Even bringing back something like The Price is Right's "Million Dollar Spectacular" would be good, or give us a couple of prime time holiday-themed Deal episodes.
Here's your chance to play network program director. If you could choose what kind of game show programming would be featured over the holidays, what would you opt for? I left the GSN marathons out of the poll equation, simply because no other network can really do that successfully. But if you've got specific ideas for GSN to improve their seasonal offerings as well, feel free to add those in the comments section!

Well if it were totally up to me, I’d love to see the shows I’ve created get on the air
OK, since that’s probably a bigger longshot than me finally getting on a show, here’s what I’d like…
Duel to be done right and on the air for a week at Christmas or any other time of year for that matter. The idea was great, the execution just wasn’t there. I loved Mike Greenburg as host, but he really needed to unglue the pen from his hand.
Deal or No Deal–I never saw what all the hype was about, but the people loved it, so it should be done sporadically as event television.
Stop trying to stretch 1/2 hour shows into an hour.
$1m Pyramid needs to get on. Since they really could only get decent celebrities once in a while anyway, find a way to do this show in a week if there’s going to be a million dollar prize. Also, since celebrities are really the problem with this show going to air in the first place, why not pair up friends/family members, or even perfect strangers to play. When I auditioned for the pilot, I never met the person I played with before and we kicked butt! My point is, it can be done.
As far as the shows that are already on, let’s see the sets decorated–I really miss the daytime game shows with holiday decorated sets. GSN could even show these, but that will never happen because the titles of most game shows of that era don’t have the words “Family” or “Feud” in the title.
Well, first I’d put the Dick Clark Pyramid marathon back on GSN New Year’s Eve. It’s a sin that they’re not doing that this year.
I have liked the one- or two-week stunting. I liked Duel. DoND was interesting in a one-week burst…then it got real old.
But I’d be cool with “Deal”…as long as it’s “Let’s Make A Deal”!
Millionaire worked best as an occasional series. Civilians playing for holiday money would be nice. Maybe even a Kids or Teen week.
Wayne: “but that will never happen because the titles of most game shows of that era don’t have the words “Family” or “Feud” in the title.” – made me laugh out loud. So true.
‘Let’s Make a Deal’ in prime time as an event would be a great idea. Do a three-night blitz or something, introduce more people to the show.
I’m still 100% sure we’re going to see Million Dollar Pyramid at some point. Just getting tired of waiting for it.
I love the LMAD prime time idea!
Seeing this show stretched to an hour isn’t too difficult. I like Wayne Brady, I love the interaction with the others on the show, but is it just me or does something still just seem to be missing with this version?
I swear I’m gonna set up an office in my bathroom. Whenever I’m in the shower or shaving is when I get my best ideas for game shows.
GSN should consider all the buzz and hype from the fan sites (yeah, like they’d ever do that) and give us what we’ve wanted all year long–$1,000,000 Pyramid.
For NYE, they should show ten episodes of $100K winners, or even mix up all versions so that the bonus round money won would total $1,000,000.
Yeah, I should be a programmer; I’m a friggin genius (in the bathroom anyway).
Ha! For me it’s doing the dishes – I always get inspired then.
I’d watch that kind of marathon for sure. That’s exactly what they need over at GSN – different marathons with some kind of theme to pull them together. Enough with ‘Feud’ already.
