Who's Your Favorite Price is Right Announcer?
Tuesday November 3, 2009
The first one covers the three regular Price is Right announcers who have been featured on the show during the past 37 years. Everyone has his or her favorite, so now it's time to vote for yours!
As a quick refresher (not that most of us need it), Johnny Olson was the first announcer for Price, from 1972 to 1985. Olson was a class act, and he worked on many game shows, including The Match Game and To Tell the Truth. He's the one responsible for the TPIR catch phrase, "Come on Down!"
After his death in 1985, Olson was replaced by Rod Roddy. Roddy had worked previously on Love Connection and Press Your Luck, and became well-known for his flamboyant personality and wardrobe. Roddy held the announcer position until his own death in 2003.
Since 2004, the announcer has been Rich Fields. Fields is a long-time fan of the show, and as an audience member in 1978 was called up by Johnny Olson to holler, "Johnny Olson, come on down!"
The announcers on The Price is Right have always enjoyed quite a bit more camera attention than on most game shows, making them a vital part of the show's success. Now it's time to choose which one you've enjoyed most over the past (almost) 7000 episodes!

Rod all the way. I grew up with his voice on Price and of the three, I enjoyed his style the most. Plus, you simply cannot beat his jackets.
Gotta go with Johnny O. I remember reading that his warm-ups were quite bawdy and much more entertaining than the show itself!
He’s not just my favorire TPIR announcer…he’s my favorite game show announcer of all time!
I vote for rod…do not like Rich Fields.I feel like Rich is sooo full of himself..
Johnny is the man!
I started watching when I was 2 years old, and still remember the shock when I found out he died.
However, I think all three have done a great job and each has enough traits of their own, which is so much better than trying to imitate the guys they replaced.
I’m actually surprised at how close this one has been!
I love all three of them – as Wayne said, they each bring/brought something different to the microphone, and all of them are/were great at their job.
