Big Saturday Night Will Change, Continue After August 22nd

Wednesday July 8, 2009
When GSN introduced their new Big Saturday Night programming, it was meant to be a summer thing, experimenting with live interstitial bits and two new game shows. There were nine weeks planned out, with an end date of August 22nd.

Our friend Chad Mosher, who is very active in the game show community, came across a post on the GSN message board about BSN and the official end date. One of the administrators has posted that she was "asked to let people know that BSN will continue in some fashion beyond August, just not in the current format."

This raises a few questions of course. The schedules released by GSN for late August indicate that The Money List and 20Q, the two new BSN games, will continue on Saturday nights, with the third hour in the block occupied by Deal or No Deal reruns. Will Big Saturday Night encompass these three shows, without the live games or skits, or will they continue to repackage the time slot to make it different?

What would you do to improve the Big Saturday Night experience? I'm convinced that GSN is onto something here, and we know that they're good at packaging live shows - just take a look at GSN Live. So how would you go about combining the BSN spirit into something that's more, well, watchable?

I think it’s great they are planning on continuing it even after August but I don’t think they should change it too much. It’s good the way it is. Big Saturday Night is nothing without the live segment though.

I think they should do what Alex over at Buzzerblog has been saying. Just throw GSN Live on Saturday nights and it will be perfect. Just open up the prize budget a bit and I think it will work.
