The take-offs on Japanese game shows just keep on coming, with the newest offering coming courtesy of MTV. Silent Library asks contestants to perform outrageous stunts (which are more like torture, both self-inflicted and administered by peers) in a library, which of course means that they have to be as quiet as possible.The original Japanese version is quite funny, and the clips I've seen of MTV's adaptation are well done. There are a couple of previews up, both on YouTube and the official MTV website, if you'd like to sneak a peek.
The quick synopsis of the game is that six friends all enter the library, and are asked to do these crazy stunts, making as little noise as they can, in order to win money. Before each stunt, each person draws a card; whoever gets the card with the skull and crossbones picture on it is the "victim."
Silent Library begins today, June 15th, at 6pm Eastern. It's the third show in MTV's new weekday comedy block, which also includes new animated series DJ and the Fro at 5pm, and an odd little relationship show called Is She Really Going Out with Him?, which looks at couples in which lovely and "innocent" girls fall for bad boys, which airs at 5:30pm. All three shows will air weekdays throughout the summer.
