GSN Unveils "Big Saturday Night"
Tuesday May 26, 2009
GSN has released the details of its new "Big Saturday Night" programming block, which kicks off on June 13th at 8pm and runs all summer long. The three-hour block includes two new, original game shows as well as live entertainment and interactive games.Up first is the new game 20Q, hosted by Cat Deeley, and featuring comedian Hal Sparks as the voice of the computer, Mr. Q. The game itself is based on the handheld game in which the "computer" must guess a chosen word or phrase by asking up to 20 questions. 20Q will air at 8pm Eastern (and repeats at 11pm).
The second game show is The Money List, hosted by GSN's own Fred Roggin. The format has contestants working in pairs to identify items on a themed list for the chance to win up to $50,000. The Money List, which looks to be the better of the two new offerings, airs at 9:30pm Eastern and repeats at 12:30am.
In addition to the game shows, "Big Saturday Night" will feature live entertainment that includes music and comedy, celebrity guests, and live games in which viewers and the in-studio audience can win cash and prizes. There's also an online contest and a road trip being planned, and we'll have details on those as they come in.
Depending on how this is all executed, "Big Saturday Night" could really work for GSN. Combining game shows with variety show style programming is a format that hearkens back to a simpler time, and acts as the television equivalent of comfort food. I think we can expect a certain cheesiness factor, but that may actually be a good thing.

This sounds cool. GSN really seems to be going all out lately. I’m guessing they have been getting really good rating lately. The only explanation I can think of is now that Prime Time network game shows have gone off people are moving to GSN for their game show fix.
Not usually home on Saturday nights.
Dislike Cat Deeley, so I will not be watching that show.
Fred has good moments, that might be worth some space on my DVR.
What is so “Bigtime” about this? Sounds like an attempt at new programming in a deadzone for programming. Why not just throw on a marathon of family feud or something and give up. This would be better suited for Friday or Sunday nights. On Saturday, I don’t see them getting much more than 50,000 people total watching this on average.
I saw these commercials and I was still wondering what this all was but now I get it. Sad when Saturday is the day to do it. PPL r gonna be on vacation cuz, I dunno, ITS SUMMERTIME. Better hope lots of ppl watch cuz I wont and if I do watch it wouldb late at night. Who is that guy in the commercials anyways? I love GSN by the way.
Who was the guy playing the security guard in the beginning?? He was handsome!! Would love to see him return and do somethings!!
I went to the very first taping of Big Saturday Night. It was a huge joke of a show and there was about ten of us in the audience that walked out before the shows end. They lured us there with the promise that there was a chance to win money and prizes as an audience member. But those who won from the audience were actors. They would move real people out of their seats…bring actors in..the actors would fake as if they won money….and then they would leave and give the real audience members their seats back…so it was all for the cameras, no real people won any real money or prizes.
The only thing they gave us was mini candy bars if we answered questions…
I highly doubt the show will last long…..it was a joke!!!!!
What’s Big saturday night’s 1-800 Number to call and enter? Why does no one have this information?
Hi, I attended the seaworld taping and was a contestant on the show with my husband. I don’t have GSN channel and was wondering if anyone could tell me if we were on either the first show or the second show (tonight’s taping) you only win your money if you are on the air so let me know! We were on the seaworld stage with the Sea Lion and Sea Otter… and the other contestants the girl looks like holly madison from playboy but with dark hair. hope that helps and let me know!!!
i was an audience memeber this past saturday and would love to watch the show so i see my pretty self on TV :=)
the fun guy from new jersey really made us laugh alot too bad he was hooked up with girl on the show
My Dad called in and won 10,000 dollars from BSN. It’s so awesome!
You can only win prizes if you are the right race, age and are good looking enough to be hired by Standing Room Only to be in the audience. only so many black people are allowed to even be in the audience and no one over forty or too homely has a chance at a prize. call 323 645 4425 for detail. I think this is discrimination.
I was an audience member for this show. I would like to express that those who thought the show (or the winnings) was a fake aren’t telling the entire truth.
Yes, there are some members in the audience who are paid (just like working a job). As of now, these jobs can be found through Craigslisting. How I found out this information was by a young female new to the area who was a paid audience member. I have visited California several times and many of the shows (definitely not The Price is Right) pay a portion of their staff. Regarding Big Saturday Night, those who were paid to be audience members did not win prizes as those of us in the audience. I was on the blue team…GO Blue, not Carolina blue, but close enough. Each person on my team won fifty dollars cash, a twenty five dollar gift card to FYE, and over one hundred, forty dollars worth of steaks to be mailed to us. I’m still waiting on my steaks as I type. I went out and bought my A-1 sauce anticipating to eat next week. There was a female on the red side who was horribly upset that her team didn’t win anything. The contestant who pulled our team through for the wins, was good. She was a strong contestant and was quick in thought. Was any portion of those actions a gimmick? I couldn’t tell you, but I can honestly tell you that I felt good to walk away with the cash and gift card in my hand. My mother was with me and she received the same winnings as I. There were two people on our team who had a chance to win one thousand dollars by answering a question. They were actors or actresses. They stood in line right along with my friend and I and one of those ladies won one thousand dollars. The other lady didn’t because she didn’t answer her question correctly. I felt really bad for her and honestly I probably would have missed the question too. When standing outside waiting to come in for the show, there were three separate lines. One line represents audience members like me while the other two lines represented the groups who were there working a job. And as I stated before, they were paid for approximately four hours but were unable to win the prizes as audience members did. One person from the red team and blue team won twenty five hundred dollars. I can’t speak for the red team because I couldn’t see that winner, but the person who won from the blue team was an audience member just as I. She waited and sweated in line as I. She had her daughter with her and we talked for awhile. She had gone to other shows, but this was the first of this show for her. She showed her paperwork when she came back from signing to receive her check.
On another note, I was so excited about the show that I went home and my friend and I told my brother how we were lucky enough to be on the good side to win a few things. He went last night and his side won seventy five dollars in cash, an FYE gift card, and the steaks too. Noone on his side won the questions. The other side did. The person who won the bill pay sat on the other side as well.
Did I forget to tell you that those who are there to earn income for the night don’t even sit with the rest of us? They sit front and center. They aren’t on sitting on a red side or blue side.
If it were a rigged game, noone like me (or my brother) would have won anything. If it’s a rigged game, it’s the contestant component of it. When those contestants win, those of us in the audience win.
If you’re interested in how the games work, it would pay to scout out all of them and do a comparison. Keep a watchful eye and you will see what happens when. Ask questions of those in the audience, not those who are working. You’ll get true answers and you can walk away with a true evaluation.
I’m sorry if you weren’t successful enough to win anything…I was. Yes, I would have felt bad had I been on the side that didn’t win. Thankfully, I wasn’t. I can’t wait for my next visit to Cali…It’s my hopes that the show continues on and I will get another chance to go.
I was searching to see if I could see any parts of the show online. I live outside of California and due to the economy recently cut my cable way down to total basic. I can only get fifteen channels. I would love to see the show because I had fun and I know I got plenty of camera time. I was actually sitting at the aisle, which is prime for tv shots. (I hope there aren’t any typos…if so, please excuse.)
I love So you think you can dance & 20Q because I Think that Cat Deekey is the best friend to me because theres something that I like about her. I wish I can be a player on 20Q and kick Q’s ass.
