Quick Poll: Cancelled Game Shows

Wednesday November 5, 2008
With some networks scrambling to figure out how to draw in more viewers and others giving new shows the axe without much of a chance to find an audience, quite a few game shows have faded into oblivion over the past year. A few of them were, perhaps, deserving of cancellation, while others came as a surprise to many of us.

On one end of the spectrum we have Hole in the Wall, which was recently canceled and unceremoniously removed from the FOX lineup. In this case the concept was better than the execution, and the game grew increasingly dull as the series went on. Overproduction and an attempt to make a silly game dramatic pretty much did Hole in the Wall in, so it wasn't all that surprising that viewers turned away.

At the other end of the spectrum are shows like 1 vs. 100, which did well in its first season but suffered as a result of the writers strike. This show had a loyal following, and continues to be successful with branded computer and video games. Then we have GSN's Lingo, which was inexplicably axed last season despite the fact that it's the most-watched show on the network, even in reruns.

If you could play network executive and bring back any of the game shows we've lost over the past year, which ones would you renew? You can choose multiple titles if you'd like to, and if your choice isn't listed in the poll, feel free to mention it in the comments!

Nicolas, Supermarket Sweep was such a fun show – I agree that it should make a comeback! The only reason it wasn’t included in the poll is because I limited the options to game shows canceled within the last year or so. :-)

Some form of password would be a good idea plus I grew up with concentration. And in that way could count at a young age . Seems to me Kids these days are left on their own to much these old classics may help all.

1 vs 100 and Power of 10 were both killed way before their time. I don’t understand GSN’s decision to cancel Lingo at all.

Hole in the Wall needs to fall in a hole and never climb out.

What ever happened to the Match Game pilot that TBS commissioned?

Based on the success of Million Dollar Password, I’m surprised we haven’t heard of a Pyramid revival.

I liked 1 vs. 100 and Lingo but I really thought Power of 10 was a cleaver concept, it was vaguely reminiscent of Card Sharks but had a very modern execution.

Lingo,Bingo in America, and Match. I know the first two mentioned look as if I’m making fun, I’m not. Lingo was a quickly moving word game which when you look at it is a good brain exercise.
Bingo in America, because everybody loves to play bingo, and the fact that alot of the local and church bingo locations have closed because of local tax and what the gov. considers gambling. I used to enjoy my thurs or friday night bingo game. I also gave the Senior Citisen a place to go and socialize.
Match game too is a great game for stirring up memory and eye detail cordination.

I love the game show Lingo. My husband and I watch it every night. We would really like to be on the show and I am very disappointed to find out it was cancelled.
