Who's Your Favorite Current Game Show Host?

Thursday March 20, 2008
One of the main draws for any game show is the host. This person becomes the face of the show, and sets the tone for the entire experience. Hosts have to interact with contestants, entertain the studio audience, and give viewers at home a satisfying show to watch.

There's a trend now towards bringing in stand-up comedians as game show hosts, and it's easy to see why. Folks like Jeff Foxworthy and Wayne Brady, just to name a couple, are already adept at entertaining audiences. They also come across as regular guys - approachable and friendly. The transition to game show host isn't always flawless, but most of them find a way to make it work.

On the other hand, hosts like Alex Trebek are more old-school. He's very professional, doesn't get too friendly with the contestants, and runs a tight ship. Both types of hosting styles work well for their respective shows. I can't imagine Jeopardy! hosted by Foxworthy, and it would be difficult to imagine Don't Forget the Lyrics with Trebek at the helm!

I'd love to know which current game show host is your favorite. Are you partial to the comedic stylings of Howie Mandel on Deal or No Deal, or do you prefer the all-around showmanship of Wayne Brady on Don't Forget the Lyrics? Do you love watching Alex Trebek make contestants squirm on Jeopardy!, or would you rather see Pat Sajak's toothy smile on Wheel of Fortune? Take the poll and share your thoughts! If your favorite isn't listed and you're forced to check "Other," leave a comment or head over to the game shows forum and let us know who that person is.
