The Moment of Truth Contestant Lauren Cleri Shatters Her Marriage for Money

Friday February 29, 2008
This week's episode of The Moment of Truth was billed as a shocker, one that viewers just couldn't miss. Clips alluded to a female contestant answering some highly personal questions about her relationship with her husband, and the episode itself delivered the drama in spades. Lauren Cleri, the woman who put it all out there in hopes of winning big money, has admitted to The New York Post that she did it all for money.

After revealing that she was still in love with her ex-boyfriend on her wedding day and that she's had affairs during her two-year marriage, Cleri ended up losing the $100,000 she had racked up on what seemed to be a very straight-forward question: "Do you think you are a good person?" Cleri answered "yes," but the polygraph machine thought otherwise.

While Cleri and her husband Frank both admit that their marital problems have been ongoing and that none of Lauren's answers were a surprise, the Post article claims that Executive Producer Howard Schultz knew Cleri was appearing on the show as a means to an end - to end her marriage.

So who went too far in this situation? Should FOX have aired the episode at all, or did Cleri know exactly what she was doing by airing her dirty laundry on national television? I've shared my opinion in Has 'The Moment of Truth' Gone Too Far?, and would love to hear yours!
